Instacast 1 2 1 – Podcasts For The Next Generation Full With this hourly breakdown, we can refine our usage more closely, and possibly guess as to what app caused us heartbreak. Have any of you seen the same mystery where you can pinpoint the time? AT&T used to dump its billing information nightly, leading some subscribers to wonder how they'd downloaded 100 MB at 11 p.m. Instacast 1 2 1 – Podcasts For The Next Generation Season The Podcasts app does include a switch to turn Auto-Download off or on for individual podcasts, but there's no app-wide preference to disable this.
#INSTACAST MAC SOFTWARE#
There's no switch to turn off cellular downloads for the Podcasts app, as it's add-on software and not part of the basic iOS setup, like the Music app. More such switches are coming in iOS 6.īecause the Podcasts app, unlike the Music app, doesn't show a comprehensive list of what it's downloading, I suspect it was polling and retrieving a number of podcasts that had been updated, even though I had launched and left the app running over Wi-Fi for a bit before I hit the road to make sure it didn't carry out such tasks. And Apple includes in iOS 5 switches to turn on and off certain activities over a mobile broadband network, like playing iCloud-hosted music. Apple and carriers once set a limit of 20 MB for downloadable items like apps, music, movies, and podcasts over cellular networks. There's no way, of course, for me to figure out which app consumed the data, nor to be warned of excessive ongoing data consumption. (The ongoing report seems to automatically break into chunks of 20 MB or less, perhaps due to vagaries in an accounting system.) Instacast 1 2 1 – Podcasts For The Next Generation Ipad

At least AT&T now offers a detailed accounting of data usage. This is a maddening reminder of how hard it is to gauge the interaction of moving parts when you have third-party app providers (warned by Apple against excessive data consumption), Apple (which created the buggy and somewhat awful Podcasts app), and a cellular firm like AT&T. In addition to the iOS and Mac apps, Instacast cloud has several.

Next story Screens 3.0.3 – Access your computer remotely. Version 2.2: Fixed compatibility with OS X 10.7.Each week Ged and Dave explore a single topic and its influence on sci-fi television, books and film. My favorite show on the network is The Sci-fi Cast. Instacast, my podcatcher of choice sits firmly on my home screen because of these shows.I'd gladly buy a single one that meets my needs and that developer wouldn't have to create in the crowded field of the more complex podcast apps. Right now I'm having to fiddle with two apps to do that, neither of which work very well. What's needed is a simple podcast app that does the above and perhaps can also handle playing audiobooks at the same time. But it has proved rather difficult to mesh with their other features. To their credit, Instacast has had enough requests for #1 above, they have had it on their to-do list for at least two years. I could easily listen to everything at 1.25x and get in 25% more listening. 2x is virtually worthless for anything more than fast-forwarding. 1.5x is tolerable for light material but nothing else. I don't know what idiot at Apple years ago thought 1.5x and 2.0x playback speed made sense, but I'm rather frustrated that Apple's own Podcast app and most others offer no other options. I prefer to manage them in iTunes on my Mac, playing them in the order I choose, not based on some complex set of rules.Ģ. Klutzing with downloads and arranging their play order on my iPhone is too clumsy.

Download from iTunes and play the podcasts in an iTunes playlist. Alas, no one has a podcast app that does what I'm looking for.
